SNSI: LCDR Byron Toole
LCDR Toole graduated from Florida Atlantic University in 1980 and entered Aviation Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, Florida. Commissioned an Ensign in August of 1980, he entered flight school at NAS Whiting Field at Milton, Florida and received his Wings of Gold as a Helicopter Pilot in April of 1981. Following Fleet Replacement Pilot training in the H-46 Sea Knight at HC-16 in Pensacola, LCDR Toole was assigned to the HC-6 "Chargers" in Norfolk, Virginia and made Mediterranean/Indian Ocean deployments aboard USS Seattle and USS Butte. In 1984 LCDR Toole underwent training in the UH-1N "Huey" helicopter at HC-16 and was subsequently assigned as a Search and Rescue (SAR) pilot at Naval Air Station, Meridian, Mississippi. In 1987 LCDR Toole transferred to the USS TARAWA (LHA-1) in San Diego, California and served as Assistant Air Officer (Mini Boss). In 1990 LCDR Toole was assigned to Commander Task Force Seventy Three (CTF-73) at Subic Bay, Republic of the Philippines. In 1991 the base was devastated by the eruption of the Mt. Pinatubl volcano and in 1992, following the Philippine rejection of the Base Treaty, LCDR Toole transferred with CTF-73 to a new headquarters in the Republic of Singapore. LCDR Toole was then assigned back in San Diego as Flight Instructor, Safety Officer and Executive Officer of HC-3, once again flying the H-46 Sea Knight. In 1995 LCDR Toole served as Safety Officer for Commander Helicopter Tactical Wing U.S. Pacific Fleet where he retired from active duty in 1996. Since retirement LCDR Toole has served as the Senior Naval Science Instructor at award winning NJROTC programs in Dayton, Ohio, Mountain Home, Arkansas, and Duluth, Minnesota.LCDR Toole has a B.S. in Management from Florida Atlantic University, M.S. in Human Resource Management from Chapman University. LCDR Toole is married to the former Johanna Stammeier of Bremen, Germany. The Toole's have three children and two grandchildren.
